Chain Reaction Foundation Ltd

Chain Reaction Foundation (CRF) is a civil society organisation and a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee governed by a Board of Directors with a small highly trained operating staff.

A catalyst for change

At CRF we work chiefly to support young teenagers and their families to build strong social cohesion and personal wellbeing within family groups, school communities and the wider civil society. We conduct our work in a stand-alone centre at Mt Druitt in western Sydney and in schools in western and south-western Sydney and beyond in NSW. CRF programs can be replicated in school environments across Australia.

Working as a catalyst for change, we focus on the development of wellbeing programs. These programs address strong personal needs for teenagers and their families in relation to growing in self-esteem, developing a sense of belonging and addressing anxiety, mental health, depression and lack of connection. The Foundation draws on the latest psycho-educational methodology and on First Nations connectivity with cultures, family and community.

CRF builds alliances across partnership organisations, always striving to strengthen them and their communities in the understanding and practice of social cohesion.

We strive to build "new rooms" for public life, always encouraging citizen participation and leadership.

We are supported in our work through funding from philanthropists and trusts, government departments, business and academe. We currently receive financial support from the following organisations:

  • The Neilson Foundation
  • Australian Government Department of Social Services (DSS)
  • St George Foundation
  • NSW Department of Communities and Justice (in-kind)
  • Individual donors

CRF acknowledges and recognises the traditional owners of the land on which we live and work and we pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders both past, present and emerging.

Vision

The vision of CRF is to be recognised as a leadership organisation of substance, contributing to the building of social cohesion for the benefit of the Australian community, doing so in three ways:

The Personal
Involving building self-esteem, identity, belonging and enjoyment

Empowerment
Involving action, task and purpose

Relationships
Involving networks and community engagement for indigenous and non-indigenous families.

We strive to realise this vision across the nation, the state and locally

Mission

  • To research, write, conduct and evaluate psycho-educational programs suitable for face-to-face and on-line learning use within schools and across communities.
  • To enhance the lives of disadvantaged adolescents by addressing the challenges of increased disconnection, emerging behavioural and mental health concerns; and the need to create a sense of belonging within families, schools and communities.
  • To acknowledge differences and celebrate diversity amongst people; and recognise the value of Aboriginal connectivity in the strengthening of social cohesion in community.
